School Wide Sing A Long and Class Christmas Parties

This will be first in a series of posts documenting Christmas 2012 for the Bacon family.  On the last day of school before Christmas break, the entire school participates in a school wide sing a long.  We also had our class Christmas parties.  Here are some pictures from the day...

Maggie's class played a game, where they divided into
teams and dressed up one person as a snow"person".  It was a
race to see which team could complete the
activity the fastest.  Maggie was the one who was transformed
 into the snow girl.

All finished!

Maggie's Words Worth Remembering
While in Maggie's class for her party, I noticed the chart below.  The class had read a book about Santa being an expert. Then, each child shared his/her "area of expertise".  Maggie really surprised me with her response...
"Maggie is a giving expert."
She is a very kind hearted child...a little sweetie!

Merry Christmas from the Bacon family

(Front of our Chistmas card this year)

(back of the card)

Words Worth Remembering

Luke Chapter 2:
1)  In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
2).  (This was the first census that took place while
Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
3).  And everyone went to their own town to register.
4.)  So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
5).  He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
6).  While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
7).  and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
8).  And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
9).  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
10).  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
11).  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
12).  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13).  Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
14)  “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
15).  When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
16).  So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
17).  When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18).  and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
19).  But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
20).  The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

We are so thankful for this AMAZING GIFT.

Trying to be brave, but not really happening.

6th Christmas (This Year)
2012
Pretty girls!

2012 again...Each year, our friends, the Roseberry family,
have a "Cookies with Santa" party.  We have gone every year,
but Lizzie and Maggie have NEVER sat on Santa's lap
while we were at the party.  This year, they not only sat
on his lap, but they both told him what they wanted for Christmas.
Joy, Joy, Joy!!!!

Lizzie's Words Worth Remembering

(We were out to dinner with my family, and Lesley takes
Lizzie and Maggie to the bathroom.  She comes
back to the table just a few seconds later than Lizzie and Maggie.)

Lizzie:  "Where were you Lesley?"
Lesley:  "Hiding."
Lizzie:  "Why were you hiding?"
Lesley:  "Sometimes you just need to hide."
Lizzie:  "Like when you need to pass gas?"

We Remember That Night

Maggie and Lizzie are in the kids' choir at church, and Sunday night, they performed their Christmas musical "We Remember That Night."  Lizzie and Maggie were sheep, and the entire choir did a fabulous job!

The choir...

Love how beautifully decorated our
sanctuary is at Christmas time.

Here come the sheep!

(The girls (sheep) each had one line in the Christmas play...).
When they came home from practice with their assigned parts,
I told them we would start practicing, so they would know their parts
when it was time for the show).

Maggie said, "Well, I think I am going to have stage fright!"

Garvan Gardens 2012

It has become a tradition that we go to Garvan Gardens in Hot Springs to look at Christmas lights every year.  This year, Lynnea went with us, and the lights were beautiful, as always!

New addition this year...animated tree...

Love these giant gingerbread people!

Maggie's Words Worth Remembering

(Maggie lost a tooth on Monday at school)

Monday morning as soon as she woke up, Maggie says, "Mom, my prayers were answered!"
Me:  "What do you mean?"
Maggie:  "I prayed my tooth would stay in until today so that
I could lose it at school and get one of those tooth
necklaces...and it DID!"

Sure enough, right after lunch on Monday, Maggie came to the office and Ms. Marsha pulled her tooth, and Ms. Candy made sure she got a tooth necklace to wear the rest of the the day!

Weekend Get (Run) Away

A couple of weekends ago, we took a little trip to Dallas.  We left on Friday morning, drove down to Grapevine, and stayed the night at Great Wolf Lodge.  This was our second visit to Great Wolf, and once again, it did not disappoint.  Actually, it was even better this time, because my two little dare devils were finally tall enough to do all the slides their little hearts desired.  Up until now, their "will" was much taller than their actual height, but now their height has caught up, so they had the time of their lives.  Sliding, playing the lazy river and wave pool, and just having a great time!

Cuties having a blast!

In the play area...

Maggie just finished a slide.

Daddy playing chase in the lazy river.

Determined!

Not to be outdone by her sister!

It's really hard to tell in this picture, but they had
"snow showers" in the lobby at various times
throughout the day.  The girls are trying to catch
 "snowflakes" in their swimsuits!

Not really wanting to pose for a picture in lobby...
all decorated as a "Winter Wonderland."

We had a great visit at Great Wolf Lodge, but Saturday afternoon, we left to head to Downtown Dallas for the REAL reason we came on this trip... I was running a half marathon with my sister, Lesley on Sunday morning.  So, Saturday, we went to the convention center to pick up our race packets, and then took a train to the North Park Mall...oh my...what a great place at Christmas time!  After dinner, we went back to the hotel to get a good night's rest for the big race.  I might've been the only one who actually got a good night's rest because Lizzie wanted to sleep with Lesley, Maggie wanted to sleep with Tony, so I got a bed to myself...I didn't mind the sacrifice.
Anyway, so bright and early Sunday morning, Lesley and I took the train to the start line and I completed my sixth half marathon, while Lesley completed her first.  It was a WARM 75 degrees at the start, with about 200 % humidity, but we survived!

Before the race...waiting to start!

And, after the race, proud of our medals!

After the race, we showered, had lunch with Lesley, and headed back to Benton.  It was a wonderful weekend!  We will definitely be going back to Great Wolf Lodge!  But, half marathon #7...I'm not so sure about that!

Lizzie's Words to Remember
Maggie:  "Mom, can we sit upstairs at church...you know up high?  People CAN sit up there." (referring to the balcony area)
Me:  "Oh, probably not."
Maggie:  "Why?"
Me:  "We'll probably just keep sitting downstairs with Meems and Pops."
Maggie:  "Well, they could sit up there with us."
Me:  "No, Meems doesn't like to climb all those stairs."
Lizzie:  "Well, if she had wings like a fairy, she could just fly up there.
Maybe we can sprinkle some pixie dust on her."
