Not too busy to horse around...

The second week of school has ended, and week two was a BUSY one for the Bacon household.  Monday night, gymnastics started back for the school year session.  I'll have to do a separate post with pictures from gymnastics class.  The girls love it, and of course, I love it that they love gymnastics.

Tuesday evening was soccer "evaluations".  Tony has coached the girls for the past three seasons, and he planned on coaching their team again this fall.  During the "try-outs", it was determined that there were not enough coaches to coach all the teams.  Tony volunteered to coach two teams this season...so this should be interesting.

Wednesday night was the first night of AWANA.  The girls moved up to Sparks this year...a big step up from Cubbies.  I am so excited about what they are going to experience and learn through Sparks!

Thankfully, Thursday night, we had nothing planned.  It was a good night to be able to stay at home because Hurricane Isaac made his presence known in our neck of the woods with heavy rains and wind.  Tony went out to find about two inches of rain inside his car Friday morning.  Nothing had been left open or cracked, and after further investigation, it was discovered that the sun roof was leaking...uggghhhh. Naturally, the factory warranty expired on his car just one thousand miles ago...He took it to the shop and found out that the grooves around the sun roof were clogged up, thus causing a leak.  They cleaned those out, and that took care of the leak...praise the Lord!

Saturday, Daddy treated Maggie and Lizzie to a special trip to Build A Bear, something they've been looking forward to for a couple of weeks.  On the way home from the mall, Kristen called and said she was at Granny's house and she was about to get her horse out for the Henthorne girls to ride.  She asked if Lizzie and Maggie would like to come ride the horse, too.  When I asked them if they wanted to do this, Maggie replied, "Momma, you know I've been begging to ride a horse...of course I do!"   They had the best time riding Buggs Saturday afternoon.

Notice the red cowgirl boots...
probably about 2 sizes too small,
but you gotta dress the part!

Off they go...

This may have been when Kristen
was explaining Rule #1:  NO SQUEALING!

It just wouldn't be a REAL horse riding
event if there were no spectators!

Paul even got in on the action.

Time for a water break...it was HOT!

Pops and Maggie taking Tex for a walk.

Ending with a much deserved shower for Buggs!

Thanks, Kristen, for inviting Lizzie and Maggie...they had the time of their lives!

This week, I also started a new Bible study...I just finished James: Mercy Triumphs (Beth Moore), and I was searching for what to do next.   I decided on Kelly Minter's No Other Gods

I started it on Monday,  and this study is really speaking to me.   In this season of my life, I am so busy with family activities in the evenings, that I have found it best to do my Bible study as soon as I get up in the mornings, before anyone else is up for the day, and...well,  you don't find any small group bible studies at 5:00 a.m.   So, it's just a daily appointment for the Lord and me each morning.  This week,  the lessons really had me thinking about the "functional gods" in my own life.  I highly recommend this study to anyone desiring to intertwine scripture with your "real life" experiences.

Maggie's Words Worth Remembering
Last weekend, I was getting ready to
go the grocery store.  I asked the girls
if they wanted to go with me,
right then, to Kroger, or if they wanted
to wait until Daddy got home, and I would just go by myself...
Maggie says, "What are me and Lizzie gonna get?"
I answered, "Food to eat for this week."
Maggie replies, "What else?"
I answer, "Nothing!"
"Then I'll just wait for Daddy," she announces.
